Toyota New Fortuner Diesel vs Ford Endeavour Diesel

Toyota Fortuner has been ruling the roost in the premium full-sized SUV segment ever since its launch in 2009. With time, the Japanese automaker has updated the SUV to withstand the competition and consolidate its position as segment leader. Though, its arch rival Ford Endeavour entered the Indian market in 2003, but it hadn't the same fortune as sales were rather limited. Now, both the SUVs have been introduced in a new and updated avatar in the market, with lot more features and engine options.

The 2016 Ford Endeavour was presented in a range of Rs. 23.63-28.15 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, New Delhi), while the 2016 Toyota Fortuner was offered in a price domain of Rs. 25.92-31.12 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, New Delhi). Clearly, on the price front, the American beast has an edge as it is nearly 3-4 Lakhs cheaper than the Japanese critter. For those asking, we are comparing only diesel variants as Endeavour is not available in petrol guise.

Mechanically, Ford Endeavour is available with two engines: 2.2L diesel motor and 3.2L diesel mill. The smaller 2.2L powertrain develops 155bhp of top power and 385Nm of peak torque, while offered with a choice of 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. It can be availed with both 2WD and 4WD systems. The bigger, heavier and more powerful 3.2L engine makes 197bhp of maximum power and 470Nm of highest torque, while coming only with an automatic gearbox and 4WD system.

Coming to the Toyota Fortuner, it is powered by the 2.8L 4-cylinder GD diesel engine which rakes in 174bhp and 420Nm. It is available in four different combinations of transmission and drive systems: 2WD with 6-speed manual, 2WD with 6-speed automatic, 4WD with 6-speed manual and 4WD with 6-speed automatic. It is quite clear from the aforementioned power output and torque performance figures that the Endeavour is way more powerful than the Fortuner; even with the smaller engine, the Endeavour lags behind by not a great margin.

Dimensionally, 2016 Ford Endeavour measures 4892mm in length, 1860mm in width, and 1837mm in height, while the 2016 Toyota Fortuner measures 4795mm, 1855mm, and 1835mm in length, width, and height, respectively. It clearly states that the Endeavour SUV is longer, wider and higher than the Fortuner. In addition, the American beast's wheelbase of 2850mm makes it extremely spacious than the Japanese critter's 2745mm. In a nutshell, the Endeavour is bigger, better and more spacious than the Fortuner SUV with plethora of legroom even for the second and third row occupants.
