Specification Comparison: redi-GO V/s rivals

Today (7 June, 2016) Datsun has launched its most frugal car, the redi GO. Datsun has kept the prices of the redi-GO very competitive starting at just INR 2,38,900. Datsun has put it as an urban crossover and it is powered by a 799cc iSAT (Intelligent Spark Automated Technology) three-cylinder petrol engine that exhibits 53bhp of power at 5678rpm and 72Nm of torque at 4400 rpm. The motor is paired to a 5-speed M/T for a linear and power packed performance.

Datsun’s unparalleled desire to enter and excel the A-segment has instigated them into customizing the redi-GO. In its outlook and exterior, the redi-GO features a complex body work along with first in segment front and rear faux silver skid plates, daytime running lamps (DRLs) and a chrome embellished grille. What further sets this hatchback apart is its tall-boy styling and best-in-segment ground clearance of 185mm. The core rivals of redi-Go like Renault Kwid, Maruti Alto 800 and the Hyundai Eon fail to incorporate these features in them as for now.

Getting inside the redi-GO, you are greeted by their first in segment feature like the illuminated doorstep inlays and the presence of a driver side airbag as standard in the top variant. The interior is clean and organized with the apparition of sufficient utility spaces like cup holders in the central console. Besides the center console with piano black highlights looks contemporary and holds redi-GO’s music system in an integrated manner. The music system comes with USB and AUX connectivity. Though the interior layout is chunky, cost cutting is done by compromising the material quality and under thigh support. However, balance is maintained as the car provides sufficient leg and headroom to incorporate a 6’ft individual easily.

In the same entry level segment, Datsun faces competition by its platform sibling; Nissan Kwid that offers the second best ground clearance of 180mm along with a touch-screen infotainment system, keyless entry and an identical fuel efficiency of 25.17kmpl. In the segment, Maruti Alto 800 is the one that will give tough competition to the redi-GO in the department of engine performance and fuel efficiency which is further embraced by Maruti’s after sales service. It also sports OVRM’s, front power windows and the option of a keyless entry. Sadly it offers a boot space of only 177 liters as compared to an ample of 222 liters given by the redi GO and a best of 300 liters given by the Kwid.

redi-GO is the latest offering by Datsun and is bound to face cut-throat competition in the segment. Having said that, the redi-GO comes embedded with some features that are new in the segment and being complemented by a dynamic design language, it gets some edge over the rivals.
