Outer Look
The splendour appearance is elevated by the iconic jeep look. The front façade is embossed with chrome favouring a strapping and rugged image. The recessed headlamps, side steps, rear bumpers, rear footsteps and other styling embellishments add more to the exterior appeal.
Interior & Features
The interior is luring and spacious though the material quality is a bit on low profile. The front seats are adjustable. The seats are well-cushioned but lack under thigh support along-with restricting back rest support. It is equipped with essentials like instrument cluster, music player on console and a few more standard features, offering commendable driving-position.
Engine
The vehicle is available in two diesel engine options - a 2.5-litre CRDe turbocharged and a 2.6-litre MDI. The 2489cc, 2.5-litre, CRDe turbocharged engine produces a maximum attainable power of 105bhp at 3800rpm and a peak torque of 247Nm at 1800rpm. The 2523cc, 2.6-litre MDI mill produces 63bhp with 182.5Nm between 1500rpm - 1800rpm. Both the engines are mated with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Mileage
The 2498 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 13.9 kmpl.
Performance and Handling
The model possesses a robust and noiseless engine with an agile suspension absorbing bumps and jerks effortlessly, and hence escalating the ride quality. It has an electronic speed limit of 155kmph.The off-road capability along-with the on-road performance is remarkable. It scurries from 0-100kmph in 17 seconds while the DI engine variant takes 19.5 seconds. The steering is efficiently responsive while the handling is balanced and wieldy.
Rivalry
The Maruti Suzuki Gypsy poses a stiff competition to the Mahindra Thar. The Thar has a rugged and innovative design while the Gypsy is a bit outdated with its archaic styling. Mahindra’s model is more powerful, frugal with more comfortable and well-equipped interior than the Gypsy and with a better off-road experience.
