Mahindra TUV300, a SUV has 7 Diesel versions available in India in 6 vivacious colours, namely, Bold Black, Dynamo Red, Glacier White, Majestic Silver, Molten Orange and Verve Blue. Launched on September 10, 2015; Mahindra TUV300 (Tough Utility Vehicle) sub-compact SUV is one of the toughest, frugal and affordable cars in its segment. Available in three trim levels - T4, T6 and T8 – Mahindra TUV300 has been designed at the company’s Kandivli, Mumbai office with inputs from Pininfarina, while the production takes place at Mahindra & Mahindra’s Chakan plant.
Inspired by the “battle tank” design, the Mahindra TUV300 is equipped with an upraised puissant shoulders, flat roof, high front nose, straight bonnet and high ground clearance. The new ladder frame chassis makes it more compact and lighter. The front fascia of the vehicle furnishes sweptback headlamps, evolved Mahindra signature grille, sporty black bumper, rectangular fog lamps and flat bonnet. Other elementary designs include square-shaped wheel arches, body-coloured door handles and wind mirrors, ORVMs, roof rails, blackened C-Pillar, rear-mounted spare wheel and vertical tail-lamps. The TUV300 is made available in six exterior paint options - Black, White, Red, Orange, Silver and Blue.
Interior & Features
The dual-tone black and beige interior add to the premium looks and make it more splendour. The compact SUV is adequately sizeable with seven-seat configuration and offering enough head and legroom for all passengers. The new three-spoke steering wheel, with mounted audio controls and Bluetooth telephony looks contemporary. The instrument panel features a multi information display (MID), a speedometer and a tachometer with chrome bezel surround. The parking brake lever and power window switches, positioned towards the rear side of the centre console, are easily accessible. Other essential features offered are a touchscreen infotainment system, power steering, aircon, a manual air conditioner, several storage compartments, etc.
The model is powered by an all-new 1.5-litre mHawk80 turbocharged diesel engine with Micro hybrid technology and start-stop system. The engine offers an omnipotent performance and is capable to produce a maximum power of 80bhp and a peak toque of 230Nm. Transmitting power to the wheels is a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) transmission.
The 1493 cc Diesel - powered variant offers a fuel economy of 14.65 kmpl.
Performance and Handling
The new mHawk80 offers high enhancement levels. The medium and low end torque provides great manoeuvrability. The gear shits are smooth and quick; though the steering is a bit heavy. It offers high speed stability, well-controlled NVH levels and handling is pretty predictable too. The TUV300 usually dismisses bumps, potholes and worst patches courtesy to its agile suspension.
