Mercedes Benz CLA Class, is manufactured in 4 models in India in the form of 2 Petrol and 2 Diesel cars. The sedan is available in 4 colors, namely, Cirrus White, Jupiter Red, Mountain Grey and Polar Silver. Mercedes-Benz introduced the CLA-Class in January, 2015 in hope to make its place in the compact sedan segment. Introduced at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo, the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class is based on the company’s popular MFA (Modular Front-Wheel Architecture) platform. Young Indian buyers are primarily targeted with its alluring design, rich interior and robust engine.
The all-new CLA-Class resembles the A-Class and CLA 45 AMG, as all three share the new Modular Front-Wheel Architecture (MFA). It has bi-xenon headlamps, panoramic sliding sunroof, a diamond radiator grille with gloss black elements, LED daytime running lamps, pronounced bonnet, 17-inches alloys with metallic grey finishing and LED tail lamps. The sedan’s high ground clearance makes it more suitable for rough Indian roads.
INTERIOR & FEATURES
The car’s interior design is inspired from the A-Class and the B-Class models, though it is more cavernous than the other two. It features a dual tone and all-black interior, HD infotainment display powered by the latest 5th generation software, COMAND computer, Harman Kardon logic 7 surround sound system, navigation system, reversing camera and several other features. With a wheelbase of 2, 699mm, the powertrain offers sufficient legroom and knee room. Though, the rear headroom is a bit insufficient.
The sedan comes in two engine options - a 2.2-litre, 4-cylinder diesel and a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol -coupled a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The first model gives out a maximum power of 134bhp at 3600rpm - 4400rpm and a torque of 300Nm between 1600rpm - 3000rpm, while the second one offers 181bhp at 5500rpm with a peak torque of 300Nm from as low as 1200rpm.
A fuel efficiency of 16.1 kmpl is given by the 2143 cc diesel variant, while the Petrol version offers a mileage of 9.2 kmpl , respectively.
PERFORMANCE & HANDLING
The petrol engine is superbly dense and conveys an effortless performance. Sadly, it gets noisy around 6200rpm. The sedan can achieve 0-100kmph in 7.8 seconds with a top speed of 235kmph. Whereas, the diesel engine reaches 0-100 in 9.8 seconds, while portraying a top speed of 220kmph. The car dispenses the least carbon emissions in its division, and offers three driving modes - Economy, Sport and Manual. Furthermore, the NVH levels are well-controlled but the steering isn’t active. With superior ride quality, the CLA- class is a fun to drive vehicle.
The Audi A3, BMW 4-Series and some other cars in the division are the rivals.
