SYNOPSIS Mercedes Benz E Class, is manufactured in 5 variants in India in the form of 3 Petrol and 2 Diesel cars. Mercedes Benz E Class comes in 5 colors, namely, Dolomite Brown, Iridium Silver, Obsidian Black, Palladium Silver and Polar White. Launched in 1947 with model 170V, the E-Class has continued to remain one of the top-selling Mercedes-Benz cars worldwide. The E-Class sedan is locally fabricated at the company's production unit in Chakan, Pune. Famous for its chic and delicate styling, superb performance and complacent interior, the E-Class is the highest selling product in Mercedes-Benz India's portfolio, with around 30,000 cars flooding the Indian terrain. Its attainable variants are- E200, E250 CDI and E350 CDI.


The modified E-Class sedan was introduced in India in 2014, which sports various exterior and interior changes. New headlights, new grille that accommodates three-pointed star, and new bumper (making it look wider) are added to the car. Option for twin-slat chrome grille with the large three-pointed star in the centre is also available. On sides, the vehicle has evolved sheet metal and multi-spoke alloy wheels. The body lines flow smoothly to the rear, while the tail-lights now get LEDs. The sleeker tail pipes feature new chrome treatment. The 18-inch alloy wheels are attached to the flared wheel arches of the sedan.


 A spacious, comfortable and feature-laden cabin comes with the E-class with best in segment interior quality and the fit & finish. The light shades along with the front and rear roofs make it well ventilated. The new model features silver and chrome inserts; instead of wooden ones for a majestic feel. The centre air conditioning vents are smaller in size compared to the previous model, and an analogue clock is added between the air vents.  important data is shown on the multi-information display plus, the car is equipped with numerous of comfort features like electric sun blinds, reversing camera with front and rear parking sensors, ambient lighting with 5-stage intensity control, 3-zone automatic climate control, electrically adjustable seats with lumbar support, programmable 3-way memory for steering and mirrors, rain sensing intermittent wipers, brake pad wear indicator, etc besides an advanced infotainment system with 5.8-inch screen sporting navigation capabilities.


The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is manufactured in 2 petrol and 2 diesel engine options. The entry-level petrol variant is run by a 2.0-litre unit that is good for 184bhp of power at 5,500rpm and 300Nm of torque at 1200, while the AMG unit gets a 5461cc motor producing 557bhp at 5,500rpm and 720Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. Power is given to the sedan via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The automobile has is a 2.2-litre turbocharged motor that produces 204bhp of power at 4,200rpm and 500Nm of torque at 1,600rom. The E 350 CDI variant gets a 3.0-litre engine that gives out a maximum power output of 265bhp at 3,800rpm and a peak torque of 620Nm at 1,600rpm. Both motors are mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox which provides power to the rear wheels.


 A fuel efficiency of 12.1 kmpl is given by the 2143 cc diesel model, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 9.9 kmpl, respectively.

The Mercedes-Benz's diesel engine conveys acceptable amount of power and performance in the majority. Power delivery is continuous with little turbo lag. The throttle response is pleasing, and the sedan glides silently. The NVH levels are exceptional, which further enhance the overall driving experience.  The Mercedes E-Class offers good handling on corners and sharp turns with the help of direct control suspension. The steering is favourable; at low speeds it is light but gets stiffer on higher revs.


The Mercedes-Benz E-Class sedan competes against Audi A6, BMW 5-Series, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF.
