Renault Pulse Review
Synopsis Renault Pulse, a Hatchback is available in 3 variants: one Petrol and 2 Diesel ones in 6 flourishing colours, namely, Cosmos Blue, Metallic Grey, Metallic Red, Pearl White, Silver and Solid Black. Launched in 2012, it is the rebadged Nissan Micra which received few interior updates in 2015. The model has acquired the Indian market efficaciously and is amongst the prominent cars available in the country.

Outer Look
The hatchback shares most of its styling elements with the Micra, except few tits - bits. The new model is endowed with automatic headlamps along with the conventional insignia grille, wider air dam and a protruded front bumper, while rest of the styling remains similar to the old model. It sports a large trapezoidal grille, pronounced front bumper, wide air-dam and green tinted glass. The RxZ diesel variant gets 170/60 R15, 15-inches alloy, while rest of variants come with 165/70 R14, 14-inches steel wheels.

Interior & Features
Renault cars in India are known for their spacious and practical interiors, so as the Pulse. The company tweaked the interior of the hatch, in 2015, which now looks similar to the updated Nissan Micra. It features a new centre console with a piano black finish, a dual tone dashboard and steering mounted controls. Whereas, 2-DIN audio system with Bluetooth, USB and Aux-in connectivity, crash sensors, ABS+ EBD and dual airbags remain unchanged.

Engine and Transmission

It is offered in two engine options – a petrol unit and a diesel one. The petrol version is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, in-line, DOCH engine producing a maximum power of 75bhp at 6000rpm with 104Nm at 4000rpm. The K9K diesel version is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4 cylinder, in-line, SOCH engine generating a maximum power of 63.1bhp at 4000rpm with 160Nm at 2000rpm. Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The 1461 cc Diesel - powered variant delivers a fuel economy of 23.08 kmpl, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 18.06 kmpl.

Performance & Handling
The engines are refined but gets strident at high speeds, especially the diesel one. With negligible turbo-lag, both the power trains are efficaciously emphatic. Low-end throttle response and mid-range performance are good. The brakes are spongy and pedal lacks the adequate comfort. The ride quality and handling of the car is wieldy.

The Pulse has more stupendous appearance with its ingenious features imparting it more significance than its predecessor. The new Swift appears sportier and more outbound than its rival. Its drivability, ride and handling, power, fuel efficiency and Maruti’s strong dealership network favours Swift over Pulse. Honda brio, Nissan micra, Toyota Etios Liva are also comes in the main competitor of Pulse.
