Volkswagen Polo, a Hatchback is manufactured in 6 versions in India in the form of 3 Petrol cars 3 Diesel cars. It comes in 6 colours, namely, Candy White, Carbon Steel, Copper Orange, Flash Red, Night Blue and Reflex Silver. Present in the Indian market since 2009, the Volkswagen Polo is a premium hatchback which has been the top selling product for the German carmaker in India. In order to improve its sales, the company introduced the updated Polo hatch in the country in 2014. The automobile comes equipped with new age features and refined power plants.
Despite being 5 years old, there’s no denying that the Polo is one of the better looking cars in its segment, all thank to the company which kept on updating it at regular intervals. The hatchback features new front grille, restyled front bumper with a chrome lining running across the air dam and new fog lamps. The stylish grille is flanked by new double barrel head lights with cornering lamps. At the rear, the updated Polo gets a new bumper with larger enclosure for the rear licensing plate and rear reflectors. While the top-spec Highline variant gets newly styled 10-spoke alloy wheels, the entry and low-level variants get new wheel covers.
INTERIOR & FEATURES
The cabin of the car is quite cavernous and offers comfortable seats for five adults. The updated model features new flat-base three-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and even has better designed control buttons. The newly styled multi-information display is easy to read. The dashboard layout of the new hatchback is dual-tone besides new upholstery for seats. The high-end variant is equipped with automatic climate control, multimedia system with display, multifunctional display, multifunctional steering wheel with controls for audio, electrically adjustable wing mirrors, and several other advanced features.
The automobile is available in two petrol and one diesel engine options. The oil burner is a 1.5-litre TDI unit that offers two states of tunes 90PS and 105PS. While the regular variants gets 90PS motor, the 105PS powerplant is reserved for the performance oriented GT TDI version. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. The regular petrol version is powered by a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder motor producing 74bhp, the Polo GT TSI is propelled by a 4-cylinder, 1.2-litre turbocharged motor that is good for 105bhp. A five-speed manual gearbox comes as standard, while the performance-oriented variant is coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The 1598 cc Diesel model delivers a fuel economy of 20.14 kmpl, while the Petrol variant offers a mileage of 16.47 kmpl, respectively.
PERFORMANCE AND HANDLING
The VW Polo's suspension mechanism consists of McPherson Strut with Stabiliser Bar up front and a Semi-independent Trailing Arm at the rear. The suspension is well engineered for Indian terrains. The power steering works well in both city and highway conditions. The diesel version runs on a 1.5-litre TDI motor, which is the downsized version of the 1.6-litre TDI motor. The can achieve 100 kmph from zero in less than 12 seconds, which is about 3 seconds faster than previous car.
